Parents, in general, are not well informed about the status of the looming teacher strike. Hopefully the district will take a proactive role in informing parents/students about developments in the bargaining process.
Below is the emailed newsletter sent out by the Clyde Hill PTA late last night. Execrcise caution opening the BEA website URL as it is currently under the control of Hackers:
You may be hearing the rumors about a possible teacher strike in Bellevue. There is no truth to the rumors that talks are at an impasse; in fact negotiations are scheduled into next week. Conversations are ongoing and are reported to remain productive. Clyde Hill teachers continue to work toward a September 2 start of school with training and setting up classrooms. Everyone is hopeful there will be no interruption to the school year.
The teachers have an information meeting August 27 and will take a vote on September 1st.
Ann Oxrieder, Community Relations for the district, has indicated that the district is mailing information to parents next week to alert them to be watching the news on Sept 1. As soon as they have made an offer to BEA (the teachers union) that can be made public, the district will post a statement on the district website on what the key issues are. The district website is www.bsd405.org. Check the BEA website as well, at www.bellevueea.org.
Based on what we know of other school districts’ history, we would expect negotiations to continue until a settlement is reached. All student days would get made up because the state law calls for 180 days of school.
PTA has no role in the bargaining process and therefore no position on this issue.
We will continue to provide information as we get it.
If you have additional information about the Strike please submit it to post@bellevuebubble.com or comment at the end of this article.

Thanks for letting everyone know about both these issues. I hope that they get control of their site back soon – and that the teachers decide to teach.
I don’t believe that teachers can be paid too much – and hope that something can be worked out quickly.
We will continue to provide all the details we can. Fortunately, we have several teachers & parents feeding us information as they get it.
It looks like the BEA Website is back up and running. They have posted a new bulletin about the strike on their homepage http://www.bellevueea.org/
