Washington State Transportation Commission announces proposed SR 520 Toll Rates

Good to Go!The Washington State Transportation Commission, a governor appointed citizens committee charged with setting toll rates, has released proposed toll rates for the SR 520 floating bridge and is seeking public comments on that proposal through January 5, 2011.  The Commission has scheduled three public hearings for people to learn more and provide comments. The Commission is expected to adopt toll rates at its final hearing on January 5.

  • Monday, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m. at the Sound Transit Board Room, Union Station, 401 S. Jackson St., Seattle.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 7, 6:30 p.m. at Bellevue City Hall Council Chambers, 450 110th Ave. NE, Bellevue.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, 6:30 p.m. at the Sound Transit Board Room, Union Station, 401 S. Jackson St., Seattle.

In addition to the public meetings, comments can be submitted online until the final hearing in January by e-mailing the Commission:  transc@wstc.wa.gov.

Watch the new video on 520 Tolling

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) just released a video that explains how tolling and Good to Go! will work on the 520 Bridge. Watch the video online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS9LyMSDD7E.

The video shows the essentials of Washington’s Good to Go! all-electronic tolling system, and what users will need to be ready by Spring 2011.

The video shows two options for paying tolls — setting up a pre-paid Good to Go! account, or using the Pay by Mail option.  There will be no toll booths on the 520 bridge. Collecting all tolls electronically means no slowing down and no stopping to pay the toll.

Toll rates that vary by time of day means drivers have the option of paying the peak rate or paying a lower rate if they use the bridge during off-peak times. Encouraging some drivers to shift to off-peak hours reduces congestion, in addition to providing funding for a newer, safer 520 Bridge in 2014.
