Striking teachers want the Bellevue School District to dig deeper into its maintenance and operations levy to increase teacher pay -- even as that fund is squeezed by state-mandated raises for teachers.

School regrettably remains closed for another day. Negotiations between the Bellevue School District and the Bellevue Education Association (BEA) resumed again today at 11 AM. I continue to remain hopeful we will make progress toward a resolution and negotiated agreement soon.

Those close to the negotiations predict the strike lasting all week. But let's not forget when contract negotiations broke down in 2003, Marysville teachers staged the longest school strike in state history - 49 days.

Lindsay Larin, with the Bellevue Reporter, has just written a piece on the current threat of a teacher strike for Bellevue schools. I can't help but feel a little disappointed the school district has no readily available information on its website about the potential strike.
